PRESENTATIONS/DEMONSTRATIONS

We at GWL have spent many years researching, sewing, and wearing historic costume, and would love to share that knowledge with your group or at your event! Topics we cover include (but are not limited to): dress differences among class, the evolution of style through the 18th century, achieving a proper fit and "out of a portrait" look, and much more.

We are also available to provide sewing, fitting, dressmaking, and "getting dressed" demonstrations within the context of 18th century clothing.

PROJECT SUPPORT

Online

Do you ever take on a project and find yourself "in over your head"? We know that feeling! That's why we offer personalized project help. We have spent many, many years costuming and sewing, and love helping trouble-shoot "sticky" areas. Whether it's a technique you need extra help mastering, basic fit issues, choosing the best materials, or working with a brand new pattern (and so much more!), we would be happy to lend a helping hand.

Virtual help requires a video chat connection. Priced by the hour, only book what you need!

FITTING AND CONSTRUCTION HELP

In Person

Over the years, we have discovered that properly fitted 18th century women's clothing just NEEDS a second person to achieve. If you are looking for fitting help, we offer in-person assistance for those tricky areas, like back seams and setting sleeves, as well as marking hems and anything else you could use an extra set of hands for. We also provide assistance with construction to help with tight deadlines, new techniques, etc.

Appointments available by the hour, only book what you need. Availability within 90 minutes driving distance, travel fee may apply. Local to Northern Virginia.
